Michael Livingston's working life has been split into three equal segments, the first at sea with the Royal Navy, the second in industry in leather tanning and chemicals and latterly in the Third (not for profit) Sector, joining H.E.A.R.T UK, then the Family Heart Association, in 1997 from the education field for disadvantaged city teenagers. 

As Director of the Charity, with more than 15 years of experience in the voluntary and commercial sectors and a proven track record in business development, he believes H.E.A.R.T UK is in a unique position in the voluntary sector to seriously focus on support and diagnosis of those with inherited high cholesterol.  Further he believes that there is wider scope for the lessons learnt in this field; that primary care is the most important interface for tackling CVD and patients must be empowered to help themselves.  Greater population wide awareness raising is needed, as well as wider cholesterol testing as part of CVD risk assessment to enable individuals to better understand their own risk and make their own healthier choices.

"I am committed to working in close mutually beneficial partnership with other national and international charities, governments and industry to seeking comprehensive public awareness of the dangers of heart disease brought about by high cholesterol, and thus to help achieve significant reductions in overall cardiovascular disease.  We should I believe be jointly discussing and implementing new programmes that address screening, early age prevention and better public awareness through schools and responsible parent involvement, the media, employers, and industry."

Michael Livingston co-founded HEART Europe and is presently Chairman.  Along with his co-founder European Member State colleagues, he sets strategic programmes for the future that assist new Countries in Europe and more recently beyond, to commission patient organisations that interact and partner with health professionals, Governments and the Corporate Sector.
